Lisa Town

A walk through a German neighborhood

  • Rating: No Rating
One of my favorite walks around my little German town is to wind through a residential neighborhood that leads to the vineyards before circling around again. The amazing thing is the many things I see along the way that are common place here.

Here are but a few photos...

The 2 car parking area for a couple houses

A simple parking area for a small apartment building

A nifty little shed with a sedum roof. Sadly I am too short to get a better picture of whats going on up there, but you see the plants draping over a little bit so you get the idea.

These pedestrian food paths are all over the town. They cut through neighborhoods and provide much more pleasant walking experiences than walking on the sidewalks that European drivers don't seem to acknowledge as pedestrian only spaces. Don't even get me started on that....

Since dogs are essentially allowed to roam around with leases everywhere there has to be specific signs in places where they must be kept on leash, like in the vineyard. It's amazing how friendly Europe is to dogs, which was a big surprise to me. Here in my town, there are trash / poo bag combo units all over the place. And seeing a dog on a lease is rare. In fact, in the morning the city is like one big doggie outing with dogs everywhere, especially down on the lakeside trail where dogs are running and playing everywhere. And yet I've never been jumped on. In fact, they are all so well behaved.

Yeah, Germany is fun: my family is from northern Germany on the Baltic. If you have a chance, you should check out the Hexegarten in Stolpe: it's a small-ish garden store / artist facility / healing plant nusery with some great little green roofs including one on a bird house. Like you, I like the pedestrian paths - esp. the non-concrete ones - and the numerous places to walk to even in small towns. And some of the playgrounds are fun. Enjoy your stay there.

Very cool pictures. Looks like a great neighborhood! Love that shed with the sedum roof, and the use of pavers in the parking areas.
