Hello all. I am a new member. I am hoping to connect with people in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas. I have a passion for garden design (and ongoing gardening), and have come to realize that my focus has been on creating healing environments. Since discovering that it is indeed a formal specialty and a growing field, I have become very interested in making it a career. I would love to become involved with a project near me. Please let me know if anyone needs a volunteer to help bring a creative project to fruition. I would be happy to contribute for the experience and sense of accomplishment.

New TLN Blog post: "Healing the Neighborhood: The Power of Gardens." http://www.healinglandscapes.org/blog. Inspiring story, with video, and many references about green space as a factor in improving health and well-being in depressed urban areas.

This from Susan Erickson, Chair of the ASLA Healthcare and Therapeutic Design Professional Practice Network. If you are a member of that group (and maybe even if you're not - worth contacting Susan about if you're interested), please consider submitting an article for the next newsletter. Great way to share information, get exposure, and connect with like-minded colleagues.
We've had some great discussions here, and some good submissions, including Brice's Bradley's most recent one on therapeutic gardens in AZ, so go for it!

Hello all,
I hope you will all join me in agreeing that our last newsletter, released a few months ago, was quite stimulating. Newsletter editor Sally Shute did a great job of putting together the newsletter. Kudos to Sally –and thanks as well because she has volunteered to continue as editor for our next newsletter.

The newsletter is as successful as we, the PPN members, make it. Consider this your invitation/request/plea for articles for the next newsletter. Articles can be short or long. Have you been involved in a project that would be interesting to others? Have you read a relevant book that you would care to review? Have you visited a place that seemed particularly well-designed? These would all be potential material for a newsletter article.

Speaking from experience, I can say that Sally is an excellent editor, amateur writing is OK—Sally’s expert editing makes us all sound good on paper.

Please contact Sally at sashute@astound.net with your newsletter article ideas. It would be ideal if you would copy me as well, at susaneri@iastate.edu.

Best springtime regards,
Susan
